Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site
 Important places associated with Martin Luther King Jr. and the American civil-rights movement line this half-mile stretch of Auburn Avenue. King's birth home and grave site, Ebenezer Baptist Church (where he worshipped and preached) and Fire Station No. 6 Museum are the main historical attractions, but don't miss the visitor center. It offers chilling exhibits, video displays and film presentations.

Friday Jazz at the High Museum of Art
 Every third Friday of the month, the High Museum lures the cultured crowd to its space with live music, cocktails and rotating art exhibits. A local jazz ensemble plays sets from the central atrium and the wondrous notes carry to the top levels of the museum.

Six Flags Over Georgia
 The big daddy is the Georgia Scorcher, one of the Southeast's tallest and fastest stand-up roller coasters. About a dozen others tempt thrill seekers like Deja Vu, a boomerang roller coaster and Acrophobia, a 200-foot rotating tower-drop ride. But the biggest attraction is Superman, the South's only coaster in which riders are suspended in a flying position.

Callaway Gardens
You'll find all things horticultural--manicured or au natural--as well as championship golf courses, a tennis complex, fishing lakes, hiking trails and 10 miles of paved bike trails and 14,000 acres. During the summer, swing by Robin Lake Beach--the world's largest manmade, white sand beach--for swimming, sunbathing, paddleboats and miniature golf.

Stone Mountain Park
 The world's largest hunk of exposed granite features a giant relief sculpture of Confederate leaders. A Civil War theme park, two hotels and a huge recreational spread figure prominently. The restored antebellum plantation, scenic railroad and paddlewheel boat are popular. There's also a Great Barn, which mixes physical activities such as rope-net climbing with an interactive fruit-harvesting game. Crossroads, a re-creation of a small Southern town in the 1870s, opened in 2002.
